The Attorney General Office, Department of Legal Affairs, is inviting suitably qualified Seychellois nationals to apply for a vacant post of State Counsel.

Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
- Review, evaluate, advise on criminal cases that enforcement agencies (Police, Fair Trading Commission, Anti-Corruption Commission, Public Health Authority etc …) submit to the Attorney General for institution of criminal proceedings;
- Prepare and prosecute criminal cases before all courts;
- Prepare, institute and/or conduct civil and constitutional proceedings for and on behalf of the Attorney General, public officers and Government ministries, departments, divisions, authorities, agencies and bodies and provide connected legal advice;
- Conduct criminal, civil and constitutional appeals before the Seychelles Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court;
- Review documents and agreements involving Government ministries, departments, divisions, authorities, agencies and bodies and provide connected legal advice;
- Provide legal advice, guidance and assistance to Government ministries, departments, authorities, divisions, agencies and bodies particularly in areas where litigation may arise;
- Attend meeting with various Government ministries, departments, divisions, authorities, agencies and bodies relating to the provision of legal advice;
- Deal with and conduct proceedings in relation to request for mutual assistance in criminal matters;
- Preparation and drafting of documents under the Land Registration Act and Mortgage and Registration Act and agreements involving the Government ministries, departments, divisions, authorities, agencies and bodies;
- Represent the Government and the Attorney General at national and international workshops, conferences and seminars;
- Attend training and workshops, overseas and local;
- Maintain and periodically submit activity or status work report;
- To perform any other duties commensurate with the post as may be required or assigned by the Deputy Attorney General or the Attorney General or such other senior counsel designated by the Attorney General.

Job Requirement
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:
Academic:
Law Degree
Professional:
- Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course or Barrister-at-Law/Solicitor/Attorney-At-Law course
- Completion of the relevant pupilage, where applicable
Experience
- 5 years practice as a Barrister-at-Law/Solicitor/Attorney-At-Law post enrolment;
- Relevant practical experience in litigation including criminal proceedings.
