Job Description

Job Summary

  • Provide legal support to the Commission in all matters with legal implications:
  • Assist the Principal Legal Officer with overseeing the Department;
  • Prepare and present cases before the Fair Trading Tribunal and other Courts of the Republic of Seychelles;
  • Participate in the negotiation of policies that the Government intends to implement which has a bearing on Consumer Protection and Competition in the country
  • Draft applications, affidavits, petitions, notices of motions, praecipe’s, statements of defense and submissions for cases before the Fair Trading Tribunal or other Courts of the Republic of Seychelles;
  • Advocate, litigate and prosecute cases before the Fair Trading Tribunal, including examining and cross examining witnesses, exhibiting evidence and making verbal submissions;
  • Monitor compliance of rulings issued by the Tribunal and conduct enforcement of judgement in instances of non-compliance.
  • Represent the Commission in training sessions, seminars and conferences, both locally and internationally, when required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law or related field PLUS five years of experience as a Legal Officer PLUS Successful completion of the Bar Vocational Course

Preferable Skills

  • Ability to undertake research and produce legal advice;
  • Ability to make sound and impartial judgments;
  • Familiarity with the laws regulating admission of evidence and hearing of cases, namely Evidence law and Seychelles Code of Civil Procedure.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making skills and problem-solving skills;
  • Professional, self-motivated and confidential;
  • Ability to plan and organize and effectively.
