Financial Controller

Job Description

Job summary

The Financial Controller is responsible for leading the accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, treasury, statutory compliance, and internal control functions of the Seychelles Airports Authority. The role supports the Chief Financial Officer by ensuring accurate and timely financial information, maintaining a strong control environment, improving finance processes, and providing meaningful financial analysis to support sound decision-making.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Lead the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in line with applicable accounting standards, statutory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close: Manage the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring reconciliations, journals, accruals, and financial reviews are completed on time.
  • Accounting Operations: Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, fixed assets, payroll accounting, and related finance operations.
  • Budgeting and Performance Management: Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial performance reporting to support effective planning and cost control.
  • Treasury and Cash Flow: Monitor cash flow, working capital, banking arrangements, and treasury activities to safeguard liquidity and support operational requirements.
  • Statutory, Tax and Regulatory Compliance: Ensure timely completion of statutory filings, tax-related obligations, regulatory reporting, and other compliance requirements applicable to the organisation.
  • Internal Controls and Risk Management: Strengthen financial controls, risk management practices, governance processes, policies, and procedures across the finance function.
  • Audit Management: Coordinate internal and external audits, respond to audit queries, and ensure timely implementation of agreed audit recommendations.
  • Capital Expenditure and Fixed Assets: Oversee capital expenditure accounting, asset verification, depreciation, asset register maintenance, and reporting on major projects.
  • Team Leadership and Continuous Improvement: Lead, coach, and develop the finance team while driving process improvements, automation, and operational excellence.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications/Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CA, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ progressive experience in accounting, audit, financial reporting, or finance operations, including at least 3 years in a senior finance or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards, management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
  • Sound understanding of statutory, tax, audit, compliance, internal control, and governance requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as Sage 300, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent, with the ability to improve financial processes and reporting workflows.
  • Knowledge of treasury, cash flow management, working capital, fixed asset accounting, and capital expenditure monitoring
