Job Description
Summary of Responsibilities:
In line with the mandate of the S.I.T.E, the lecturer will be involved in the following areas: teacher education, educational leadership, continuing professional development (CPD) and educational research within the limits of available resources and workload. The main objective is to provide high quality, relevant learning opportunities and authentic experiences that will enable student teachers to maximise their educational, vocational and personal development potential. The lecturer is also responsible to the Subject Leader with regards to curriculum matters.
Principal Accountabilities and Specific Duties:
- The Institution expects its teacher educator/lecturer to:
Curriculum Delivery and Student Assessment
- conduct training in specific subjects/areas of study on different programme
- prepare teaching/learning resources, plan for and deliver all scheduled lessons for assigned courses
- monitor, maintain relevant records, and report on student teachers’ performance in taught courses in the agreed manner
- provide educational guidance, support and counsel student teachers in managing their own learning and act as a personal/group tutor as and when required
- assess, invigilate and mark student teachers’ work for assigned courses
- participate fully in the evaluation of students and taught courses
- engage in team planning and team teaching as appropriate
- organise relevant field trips/outings to promote student teachers’ learning experiences
- liaise with other lecturers with regards to resources, curriculum development, student reports and other related matters
Work-based experience (WBE)/Teaching Practice
- prepare student teachers for WBE
- liaise with appropriate personnel in host institutions to facilitate student teachers’ WBE
- visit, mentor and provide guidance to student teachers during WBE
- provide student teachers with feedback on their performance in the agreed mode and format
- monitor and evaluate student teachers’ WBE performance
Programme Development and Evaluation
- participate in the review of existing courses as appropriate
- serve as a member of Programme Development Team
- participate in the development of new courses in the agreed format and within the limits of his/her teaching workload
- maintain documents and records relevant to course/programme development
- participate fully in programme(s) evaluation.
Quality Assurance
- Comply with and support the Institution’s Quality Assurance and Improvement processes
and Management Information Systems as they evolve - adhere to and ensure compliance with all institution’s policies, quality processes and procedures, rules and regulations and as detailed in the Internal Quality Assurance Manual, the Staff Handbook and the Student Handbook
- participate fully in the Institution’s self-assessment procedures; internal and external inspections and audit requirements; internal and external verification activities; and provide information as required in the required format and within the set time frame
- ensure effective quality control and continuous improvement in all aspects of this post, in keeping with the Institution’s existing and developing quality assurance systems.
Staff Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Appraisal
- engage in peer observation and mentoring
maintain an up to date knowledge of specialist subject/discipline area - undertake such staff development activities including up-skilling and training events as required by the Director to improve professional competencies
- deliver CPD programme(s) for SITE staff, in-service teachers and education professionals as may be appropriate to his/her skills participate in the Appraisal System as required
- undertake capacity building needs identified during such appraisal, or identified by the
relevant academic manager - be proactive and committed to own CPD
Management and Administration
- Maintain, complete and produce all required documentation such as: registers, Termly Schemes of Work, records of work, course review, course analysis documentation, student reports, absence reports, course files, etc. by the agreed deadlines
- participate in academic and other committees when and as required and as per established policy.
- ensure that all targets as agreed and set by the Institution are met
- punctually attend and participate in Programme Team meetings, Academic meetings, Examination Board, Staff meetings, and others as required by the Director.
Research and Consultancy
- supervise student teachers ’ research
- undertake individual or collaborative research, within available resources, deemed appropriate by the Institution
- disseminate research findings in agreed format
- undertake individual or collaborative consultancy work deemed appropriate by the Institution
Promoting and Marketing the Institution
- assist in the marketing or presentation of programmes in accordance with the requirements of the Institution
- promote his/her subject of specialisation and the institution
- assist in the recruitment and interviewing of prospective student teachers as and when required.
General Duties
- Participate in the process of strategic planning and actively implement the Institution’s Strategic Plan
- Participate actively in major educational activities/events organised by the parent Ministry.
- Actively promote the values of the Institution: partnership, respect, accountability, creativity; teamwork, integrity, self-discipline, excellence, intellectual curiosity, and trust
- Provide cover for colleagues during periods of medical absences and/or approved local overseas mission
- Facilitate ECA clubs to promote holistic development of student teachers
- At all times seek to serve the best interests of the Institution
- Establish effective and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners including but not limited to the:
- Director
- Assistant Director/Coordinator of Studies
- Head of Programme
- Subject Leaders
- Administrative Officer
- Quality Assurance Officer
- Students Support Officer
- . Health & Safety Officer
- All learners
- Research Coordinator
- CPD Coordinator
- Board members
- All staff members (part-time & fulltime, academic & support staff)
- External agencies: employers, regulatory bodies, stakeholders, workplace
supervisors
- Performing other relevant duties pertaining to teacher education and training, programme development, educational research, educational leadership, CPD and the effective functioning and operation of the Institution as and when required.
Job Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum Education/ Requirement
- Subject Lecturer:
- Degree in main subject area or equivalent
- Teaching qualification
- EDST Lecturer:
- Masters degree in education (conversant in the psychology, history and sociology of education
- Teaching qualification
Minimum Experience Requirement:
- Five years teaching experience in schools, experience in teacher education institution is preferable,
- Experience in curriculum/training materials development
Minimum Technical Requirements:
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to use MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), email/internet
