Job Description
Overall Responsibilities
The Legal Officer shall be responsible to the Legal Advisor/Senior Legal Officer and will be responsible to coordinate all legal functions of the Ministry.
Main Duties
- Address the internal and external legal concerns of the Ministry
- Handle a wide range of administrative, Clerical and Research duties to ensure the best legal approach is adopted for the benefit of the Ministry
- Advise on law matters of routine nature falling within the portfolio of the Department of Civil Aviation, Ports & Marine and Department of Land Transport.
- Handle conflicting legal matters that involve international, public and private law
- Promote strong relationship with partners and clients
- Draw up memoranda, legal agreements and other legal documents in consultation with the Office of the Attorney General
- Conduct research to ensure that the Department of Civil Aviation, Ports and Marine and the Department of Land Transport are acting in accordance with applicable laws
- Liaise with the Office of the Attorney General regarding the drafting of laws affecting the Ministry
- Appear in Tribunals/Courts on behalf of an official when required
- Perform law enforcement duties falling within the portfolio of the Department of Civil Aviation, Ports & Marine and the Department of Land Transport
