Island Conservation Society (ICS), a leading not-for-profit conservation Non-Government Organisation registered in the Seychelles, is seeking applications from qualified and experienced candidates for the following positions, as per detailed below.
Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
The duties of the ACO are widely similar to the work programme and duties of the Conservation Officer described above. Accordingly, the successful candidate will:
- Follow the instructions of – and be responsible to – the Conservation Officer to implement and deliver the work programme for Island.
- Supervise the work of the Conservation Ranger on the island.
- Be required to act in the position of the Conservation Officer as and when required to do so by ICS Head Office.
- Be responsible for the implementation of anti poaching methodologies and patrols on the island.

Remuneration
- The position is for a two-year contract with a remuneration of R210,000 per annum, annual salary review and subject to usual statutory deductions.
- Board and accommodation are provided free of charge.
Job Requirement
Requirements
Minimum requirement – University undergraduate degree in the biological, conservation or environmental sciences or closely related field or at least 4 years’ experience working with ICS or similar organisation in the position of Senior Conservation Ranger.
Preferred – Above with some years of direct relevant experience.
Desirable – Certification and experience as an open water scuba diver and proven experience in boat skippering and boat handling generally.
Other considerations: The ideal candidate will be able to physically and mentally cope with the rigours of working in a remote location. Applicants should also have good awareness of safety issues and be comfortable living and working in small team with other people from a range of cultures. The successful applicant will be resilient, self-motivated, and be able to get along with other team members. However, while living and working on a remote island is intense, the island provides a unique opportunity to contribute to the continued conservation and continuation of rare and endemic species most of which would otherwise have been forever lost to humanity. It provides an opportunity to push back unfettered and destructive human development at the expense of biodiversity. It is hard but rewarding work.
