Mahe Laundry Services is a start-up laundry venture located in Roche Caiman, on the mainland of Mahe, Seychelles. The commercial laundry will service mainly business customers in the hospitality, industrial and heathcare sectors and has a total capacity of ± 13,000 tons/day.

We are currently recruiting for the following position:

Job Description

Position Summary

The Laundry Technician is responsible for keeping the commercial laundry and dishwashing equipment at Mahe Laundry Services running safely and reliably. This includes installing, maintaining, repairing, and calibrating washers, dryers, ironers, steam systems, and chemical dosing systems, and training operators in their safe use.

The role is technical and physically demanding and requires the ability to diagnose faults independently while keeping breakdown time to a minimum in a busy industrial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out daily checks and planned preventive maintenance on washer-extractors, tumble dryers, flatwork ironers, folders, presses and finishing equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults, keeping breakdown time to a minimum.
• Maintain steam supply, boilers, water treatment plant, pumps, valves, and water-softening equipment.
• Service dishwashing machines used in client kitchen.
• Install, test, and commission new equipment alongside supplier and contractor teams.
• Program and calibrate chemical dosing systems so wash formulas, temperatures, and water levels meet specification.
• Keep a maintenance log, equipment history, and spare parts list, and raise purchase requests before stock runs out.
• Train laundry operators on correct, safe machine use and basic troubleshooting.
• Liaise with suppliers and visiting technical teams during installations and warranty visits.
• Follow lock-out/tag-out, electrical isolation, and hot-surface procedures before any repair, and never bypass machine guards or safety interlocks.
• Handle laundry and dosing chemicals in accordance with company procedures and Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Report accidents, near misses, safety hazards, and unsafe equipment to the Supervisor immediately.
• Respond to urgent equipment call-outs, including outside normal hours when production requires it.
• Perform any other technical duties reasonably assigned by management.

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have:

• A diploma or trade certificate in mechanical, electrical, or electromechanical engineering (or equivalent).
• At least three years’ hands-on experience maintaining commercial or industrial laundry, kitchen, or similar equipment.
• Working knowledge of steam systems, pumps, motors, contactors, PLC or microprocessor controls, and basic pneumatics.
• The ability to read wiring diagrams, manuals, and equipment schematics.
• Good spoken and written English; Creole or French is an advantage.
• A valid class 2 driving licence.
• To provide a recent police character certificate

The following will be an advantage:

• Experience with chemical dosing equipment and wash-formula programming.
• Experience with boilers, heat exchangers, or water treatment.
• Manufacturer training on commercial laundry brands.
• Basic first aid certification.

Physical Requirements

The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Lift, carry, push, and pull tools, machine parts, and supplies safely.
• Climb, bend, kneel, and reach while working on and around machinery.
• Work in confined spaces around machinery when required.
• Work in hot, humid, and noisy industrial conditions.

Working Hours

This position requires flexibility to meet operational demands from Monday to Sunday, forty-eight hours per week. The employee is entitled to twenty-four hours off a week and one hour break per day.

Due to operational requirements, the successful candidate must be willing to:

• Work long or irregular hours when required.
• Work overtime, weekends, or public holidays where necessary.
• Be rostered for emergency call-outs when equipment breaks down outside normal operating hours.
