THE CONSTITUTIONAL APPOINTMENTS AUTHORITY
APPOINTMENT OF CHAIRPERSON OF THE ELECTORAL COMMISSION
Applications are invited from persons who are citizens of Seychelles, residing in Seychelles and are qualified under Article 115(2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Seychelles for appointment as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
The principal role of the Chairperson is to manage and to provide leadership to the Electoral Commission. This includes
- Call meetings regularly and set the agenda;
- Lead meetings and ensure minutes are properly kept and distributed;
- Direct discussions and deliberations of the Electoral Commission;
- Ensure that agreement, preferably by consensus, are recorded and acted upon;
- Present decisions and recommendations to the Head of the Secretariat and ensure their implementation;
- Inform the other members in a timely manner of other institutions, International electoral management bodies wishing to meet with the Electoral Commission. Ensure that any such a meeting with any of these bodies is attended by a minimum of three members.
The functions of the Commission include maintaining the national registers of voters in accordance with the requirements of the Elections Act and conducting and supervising Presidential and National Assembly elections, and referendums, in accordance with the legal framework.
The Chairperson shall be appointed for a term of seven years.  The salary of the Chairperson, allowances and gratuity shall be such as may be prescribed by an Act.
