Job Description

Summary of main duties:

The Counter Assistant is responsible for delivering efficient, accurate and customer-focused postal counter services to members of the public.  The role involves the sale of postal products and services, processing of mail and parcels, collection and accounting of revenue, management of cash and stamp imprests, and maintenance of accurate operational records.  The position contributes to the achievement of organisational service standards by ensuring prompt customer service, compliance with postal regulations, accurate financial transactions, and effective promotion of Seychelles Postal Services’ products and services.  The Counter Assistant is also responsible for capturing and updating relevant operational data and supporting other postal operations as directed by management.

Main Responsibilities

Financial & Agency Services:

  • Hold and manage stamp, bus card, and postal stationery imprest floats;
  • Perform daily cash balancing and revenue reconciliation;
  • Accept agency payments (PUC, Cable & Wireless, Intelvision etc…);
  • Process parking coupons, bus card recharges, E-Top ups, private letter box rentals, and key cutting payments

Mail Acceptance & Processing:

  • Accept ordinary and registered letters, small packets, parcels, and Express Mail Service (EMS) items at the counter.

Systems Capture & Tracking:

  • Execute real-time tracking event entries using IPS Light and record international package details into the Custom Declaration System (CDS)

Reporting & Support:

  • Compile weekly outbound mail statistics for submission to the Counter Supervisor;
  • Deputise for higher frontline counter duties during temporary officer absences.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualification and experience:

  • IGCSE qualification or equivalent certificate plus the ability to read, write and communicate in English, French and Creole or
  • 2 years’ satisfactory relevant work experience plus the ability to read, write and communicate in English, French and Creole.
