Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Financial Controller oversees the general accounting operations of the Seychelles Islands Foundation by controlling and verifying all financial transactions. The responsibilities include reconciling account balances and bank statements, maintaining general ledger and preparing month-end close procedures.

The employee is responsible for all operations of the accounts function and ensuring that incomes and expenditures are recorded with accuracy as per laid down procedures; maintaining of financial control; providing financial reports to management and the SIF Board of Directors as and when required.

The employee’s work is performed by applying knowledge of accounting terminology and using spreadsheets and/or automated accounting systems.

  1. Responsible for the planning, directing and coordinating the financial accounting functions and formulating financial policies
  2. Assesses the financial situation and advising on the SIF’s financial performance
  3. Controls the expenditure and taking measures to ensure efficient use of funds
  4. Prepares budget and management reports and oversees the various accounting operations of the SIF
  5. Checks payment vouchers/LPO requests and sign cheques daily
  6. Authorizes online banking
  7. Replies to queries through emails/letter and telephone calls
  8. Prepares monthly income statements to the CEO/SIF Board of Trustees
  9. Verifies monthly Pension Fund report/PIT process for payment
  10. Checks and verifies monthly salary for both locals and expatriates
  11. Liaises with Aldabra Island Manager for stock report/salaries queries etc…
  12. Liaises with VdM Site Manager for stock report/queries of salaries and from cafeteria and souvenir shop
  13. Verifies end of contract, compensation and annual leave calculations
  14. Approve petty cash recoupment/banking
  15. Liaises with SIF’s external auditor as and when required
  16. Ensures postings for the following accounting codes are undertaken
  17. Ensures inventory postings are conducted Accounts Assistants
  18. Verifies monthly projects accounts (Aldabra House, Invaziles, Bio-Security etc…)
  19. Prepares the accounting policies manual)
  20. Assists with the implementation of internal control for all three sites
  21. Assists with other accounting duties as may be assigned by the CEO

Responsible to – Chief Executive Officer

Hours or Work – 40 Hours per week and Upon Request Overtime

Job Requirements

Qualifications & Requirement for the post

  • ACCA Professional Level Member/Affiliate or equivalent of a Master’s Degree in Finance
  • OR F1 to F9 plus Professional Ethics Module and the Oxford Brookes University Research and Analysis or equivalent Degree in Accounting plus two years satisfactory work experience as Assistant Accountant
  • At least ACCA Level 1 or AAT Final plus five years satisfactory work experience as a Senior Accountant OR
  • At least Advanced Diploma in Business Studies or AAT Intermediate or ‘A’ level in accounting with at least eight to ten years working experience

Languages

Fluency in Creole and English essential
