Job Description
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform microbiological test on water and wastewater samples, as per ISO methods with minimal supervision
- Perform physico-chemical analysis on water and wastewater samples
- Follow quality control procedures in the laboratory
- Perform accuracy checks on samples or other methods required to maintain a high standard of accuracy
- Maintain accurate and up to date records (log books, calibration records, data entry on computer)
- Maintain inventory of media and reagents
- Responsible for the calibration and maintenance of all Laboratory Equipment
- Work under the direct supervision of Senior Laboratory Technician.
- Participate in the water quality sampling and Environment Monitoring programs for Mahe, Praslin and La Digue
- Attend to complaints related to water and wastewater quality
- Advise the Laboratory Manager/Senior Laboratory Technician of discrepancies regarding results of tests
- Participate in Proficiency Testing Programs
Job Requirements
Education and Qualifications
- Certificate in Health Studies-Bio Medical Laboratory Science/Environmental Health Science or A levels in Science, Chemistry subjects.
- Fluency in English.
Experience
- Three years’ experience as an Assistant Laboratory Technician in water or Wastewater Utilities company, public health laboratory, or related private laboratory.
- Familiarity with routine water tests and quality control practices.
Personal attributes and other skills
- Must have good analytical and organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- The ability to function both as part of a team and individually.
- Well-versed in using computers.
Essential Requirement
- Flexible to work after hours, public holidays and on weekends.
- Physically fit, need to collect samples on Mahe, and frequently visit Praslin and La Digue.
- Not afraid of the sea, in some occasions need to collect seawater samples.
