Job Description
About the role
As the Legal and Research Advisor, you will lead the Legal and Research Department, providing high-level legal advice, conducting thorough legislative research, and supporting the National Assembly in making informed decisions. This role requires a combination of legal expertise, strategic thinking, and research acumen to address complex legislative and policy challenges.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of the Legal and Research Department, exercising autonomy and judgment.
- Provide Members of the National Assembly with legal counsel and research insights on proposed bills, amendments, and motions.
- Assist with drafting and amending bills, leveraging legislative precedents and international practices.
- Conduct in-depth research on legal, policy, and constitutional questions to guide decision-making.
- Collaborate with departments and committees to ensure accuracy and clarity in legislative documents.
- Advise on parliamentary procedures and offer non-partisan legal and policy counsel.
- Draft research reports, analytical summaries, and detailed briefings to support a well-informed legislative process.
- Represent the National Assembly’s interests in disputes and provide counsel on legal frameworks.

Job Requirements
What we are looking for:
Qualifications
- A Degree in Law, Public Policy, Political Science, or related fields.
- Specialized training in legislative research, policy analysis, or public law is an advantage.
- Expertise in legislative research and policy development.
- Proficiency in Creole, English, and French.
Key competencies
- Deep understanding of legal frameworks, legislative processes, and research methodologies.
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
