Job Description
Responsible to: Senior Legal Officer
Duties and Responsibilities
- Creating formal case files for each complainant.
- Establish merit of human rights issues and cases brought to the attention of the SHRC.
- Ensure that legal procedures are adhered to in the conduct of investigations.
- Assist in the establishment, reviewing and monitoring of internal processes and procedures relating to complaints and investigation.
- Preparing report on case work activities.
- Provide recommendations regarding follow up and disposition of cases.
- Prepare dossiers and engage in mediation, conciliation and negotiation emanating from or constituting a violation.
- Engage in community outreach activities.
- Undertake legal research in connection with human rights cases and issues when necessary.
- Draft legal opinions, memoranda and other briefing documents as required.
- Arrange to provide financial assistance to enable proceedings to be initiated in a competent court or direct complaint to appropriate forum.
- Undertake legal and regulatory analyses of laws at the national level to ensure compliance with Seychelles’ Human Rights International obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of status reports on Bills referred to SHRC
- Ensures legal accuracy in drafting of different documents, including education programmes, reports, submissions, press releases etc. prepared by the team and its secretariat;
- Monitor and follow up on the implementation of human rights legal requirements by relevant MDAs (Ministries, Departments & Agencies) and other institutions.
- Assist in the preparation of contracts, service agreements, and instruments to which the SHRC is a party.
- Interact on behalf of the SHRC with relevant Government authorities as and when required with regard to any legal matters of the SHRC.
- Promote co-operation in handling complaints or overlapping jurisdictions
- Promotes HRBA in the development and implementation of Government legislation policies and programmes.
- Attend and represent the SHRC at national and international events as appropriate.

Job Requirements
Minimum Education Requirements:
LLB and Bar or a degree in, international relations, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in the legal field particularly in human rights and international humanitarian law.
