Job Description

Job Purpose:            

To dispense and provide counselling on medication prescribed by a medical Practitioner.

Key Outputs:

  1. Medication dispensed as per prescription.
  2. Stocks control carried out as per protocol.
  3. Information verified for accuracy.
  4. Clients profile established and recorded appropriately.
  5. Inventory well verified and updated routinely.
  6. Medication and filling bottles labelled.
  7. Client prescription details verified and confirmed.
  8. Appropriate counselling on medication provided to all clients.

Key Functions:

  1. Dispensing medicinal and pharmaceutical products.
  2. Counselling of clients/patients on use of medication.
  3. Filing and maintaining up to date tally cards or master file system for all medicinal and pharmaceutical products.
  4. Recording proper records for:
  5. Daily prescription statistics and prescription for non-stock and consultant items;
  6. Register of prescriptions for narcotics
  7. Monitoring stock control level and requesting regularly supplies of all pharmaceutical product.
  8. Storing of all pharmaceutical at the required conditions and checking expiry dates of drug items regularly.
  9. Distributing pharmaceutical and medicinal products to wards and regional hospital through requisition (Ward, specialized Outpatient Clinic Pharmacy)
  10. Performing checks on the ward floor stock, emergency trays medicine cupboards and ensuring drugs are stored at the required conditions (Ward Pharmacy).
  11. Communicating with medical professional in the hospital or health centre providing effective patient care.
  12. Preparing of cytotoxic drugs and IV additives (Ward Pharmacy).

Person Specifications

a) Qualifications

  • Must have a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science
  • Must be registered with Allied Health Professional’s Council

b) Experience

  • Experience not required
