Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
Roux Plant & Machinery (Pty) Ltd is seeking an experienced and highly organized Plant and Machinery Manager to establish, manage, and grow the company’s plant and equipment rental division.
The Plant and Machinery Manager will be responsible for the overall management, operation, maintenance, utilization, profitability, and growth of the company’s fleet of construction plant, machinery, vehicles, and equipment. The role requires a proactive leader who can ensure equipment is properly maintained, efficiently allocated, rented profitably, and operated safely while maximizing fleet utilization and minimizing downtime.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the company’s plant rental business into a leading equipment rental provider in Seychelles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fleet Management
- Maintain an accurate register of all company plant, machinery, vehicles, tools, and equipment.
- Develop and implement fleet management systems and procedures.
- Monitor equipment utilization and availability.
- Ensure all assets are tagged, tracked, and properly documented.
- Monitor equipment performance and operating costs.
- Prepare recommendations for fleet expansion, replacement, and disposal.
- Rental Operations Management
- Manage daily plant and equipment rental operations.
- Coordinate equipment allocation between internal projects and external clients.
- Ensure efficient scheduling and deployment of equipment.
- Maximize fleet utilization and revenue generation.
- Monitor rental contracts and equipment returns.
- Ensure equipment is delivered and collected on time.
- Resolve operational issues affecting clients and projects.
- Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs.
- Schedule routine servicing and inspections.
- Ensure machinery remains in safe and operational condition.
- Coordinate repairs with internal mechanics and external service providers.
- Monitor maintenance costs and equipment downtime.
- Maintain complete maintenance records for all equipment.
- Ensure manufacturers’ maintenance schedules are followed.
- Workshop and Technical Oversight
- Supervise workshop operations and maintenance personnel.
- Establish workshop procedures and standards.
- Ensure proper use of tools and workshop equipment.
- Maintain inventory of spare parts and consumables.
- Coordinate major repairs and overhauls.
- Verify quality of repair work before equipment is returned to service.
- Asset Tracking and Control
- Implement equipment tracking systems.
- Monitor equipment locations and movements.
- Conduct regular fleet inspections.
- Investigate equipment losses, damages, or misuse.
- Ensure all machinery is adequately insured and licensed where required.
- Maintain records of registrations, permits, and certifications.
- Business Development
- Assist in developing the plant and machinery rental business.
- Identify opportunities to increase rental revenue.
- Build relationships with contractors, developers, consultants, and government agencies.
- Prepare plant rental quotations.
- Negotiate rental agreements with clients.
- Support marketing initiatives for the rental division.
- Financial Management
- Prepare annual plant operating budgets.
- Monitor equipment operating costs.
- Track rental revenue and profitability.
- Analyze utilization rates and fleet performance.
- Approve maintenance expenditure within authorized limits.
- Prepare monthly financial and operational reports.
- Health, Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Seychelles health and safety regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture throughout the fleet operation.
- Conduct equipment safety inspections.
- Ensure operators are properly trained and certified.
- Investigate equipment incidents and accidents.
- Implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Staff Management
- Supervise mechanics, operators, drivers, workshop personnel, and yard staff.
- Conduct performance evaluations.
- Identify training requirements.
- Ensure workforce productivity and discipline.
- Develop succession plans and skill development programs.
- Strategic Planning
- Develop short-term and long-term fleet strategies.
- Recommend new equipment purchases based on market demand.
- Assess equipment replacement requirements.
- Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Support company growth initiatives.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
One of the following:
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Degree in Plant Engineering
- Degree in Construction Equipment Management
- Equivalent technical qualification
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 5 years experience in plant, machinery, fleet, or equipment management.
- Experience managing construction equipment fleets.
- Experience in equipment rental operations is highly desirable.
- Experience supervising technical and operational teams.
- Knowledge of workshop operations and maintenance planning.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
Strong understanding of:
