Post Title: Principal Economist
Responsible to: Director General – Fisheries
Job Description
General Purpose
Lead the Fisheries Economics Section in applying advanced economic theories and conducting data analysis to better understand the trends in the fisheries sector hence provide specialist advice for policy and decision-making purpose.
Preliminary duties:
- Co-ordinates in the preparation of fisheries sector development and management plans as an integral part of the national planning process;
- Assist in policy formulation for the sector;
- Undertake economic evaluation and contribution of the fisheries sector to the economy
- Provide socio-economic inputs related to fisheries into the National Development Plans so as to achieve the desired fisheries management objectives;
- Research and analyse fisheries related economic issues;
- Analyse data using complex econometric models and techniques;
- Prepare reports and presentation materials for workshops and conferences;
- Prepare quarterly and annual reports;

Job Requirement
Recognised qualifications and requirements for the post
- Master’s Degree in Social Science, Economics, Resource Management, Law or Related field plus 3 years at senior level or 8 years related experience.
- Bachelor Degree in Social Science, Economics, Resource Management, Law or Related field plus 3 years at senior level or 9 years related experience.
