Job Description
Job purpose:
To initiate and supervise implementation of pharmaceutical programs, supervise pharmacy staff, and the implementation of drug related policies, procedures and work schedules for the daily operation of public pharmacies.
To control the quality of pharmaceutical products entering the country. To carry out Human Resource functions for implementation of policies, procedures and work schedules for the daily operation of the unit.
Key outputs:
- Quality control and work output of pharmacy section monitored and approved
- All registers and Tally-cards reconciled and reports produced timely
- Relevant pharmaceutical guidelines and documents developed
- Junior staff and students trained, supervised and appraised
- Report compiled and submitted timely
- Research program initiated and carried out
- Pharmaceutical errors investigated and corrective action performed
- National Drug List, stock and non-stock pharmaceutical drugs monitored and updated
Key functions
- Reporting the consumption pattern, procurement plan and updated medicine registers to the Chief Pharmacist timely
- Monitoring and approving quality control and work output of the pharmacy section
- Translating National Health Policy into plans of action
- Developing relevant pharmaceutical guidelines, standards and documents
- Reconciling registers and Tally-cards; and producing reports timely
- Training, supervising and appraising junior staffs and students
- Compiling and submitting reports timely
- Initiating and conducting research program
- Investigating pharmaceutical errors and performing corrective actions
- Monitoring and updating National Drug List, stock and non-stock pharmaceutical drugs
- Participating in planned, adhoc, emergency, and/or scheduled committee meetings of the organization
- Collaborating with the Chief Pharmacist for staffing prognostic and budgeting
- Producing work schedule for junior staff

Person Specifications:
Qualification:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences from a recognized institution
- Must have a Diploma in management or equivalent

- Minimum 5 years as a Senior Pharmacist
