Job Description
General Purpose
The Senior Economist will report to the Director for Blue Economy’s Programme Management Division and will assist the Division in a range of functions, including conducting surveys, socio-economic assessment and data analysis, preparing sectoral briefs and economics reviews, reports, and provide specialist advice for policy and decision-making purposes. The Senior Economist should deal effectively with other staff and with external stakeholders. The Senior Economist will be expected to represent the Director both locally and internationally when necessary.
Preliminary duties:
- Prepare sectoral brief, reviews and reports;
- Participate in the formulation, review and implementation of Economic Planning policies, Strategies and Programmes;
- Formulate recommendation, plans, and policies which could be used to solve economic problems or issues.
- Provide advice and consultation related to economics to businesses, private, and public organizations, and government agencies.
- Develop economic procedures and plans which are used in forecasting trends and formulating policies.
- Carry out research on the trends pertaining economics in relation to the ocean-oriented production and distribution of goods and services
- Participate in the preparation of position papers on Regional and International Economic Cooperation;
- Present economic data in formats that is understandable to stakeholders, to other staff and to Senior Government decision-makers.

Job Requirement
Recognised qualifications and requirements for the post
- Master’s Degree in Social Science, Economics, Resource Management or related field plus 3 years at senior level or 8 years related experience.
- Bachelor Degree in Social Science, Economics, Resource Management or related field plus 4 years at senior level or 9 years related experience.
