Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicate the strategic vision and plan of the Ministry, its Departments and Agencies to the public;
- Manage employee internal communications to boost engagement;
- Develop and execute the communication strategy between the Ministry, its Departments, Agencies (MDAs) and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs);
- Oversee the Ministry’s digital strategy and social media platforms to ensure effective communication and steer channels’ development;
- Focal person for the Ministry’s public relations activities and ensure that any and all public relations activities are being implemented in a manner that is coordinated;
- Develop and maintain close liaison with different Ministries, Departments and Organizations as appropriate for the efficient operation of the Ministry;
- Liaise with different Heads of Organizations on behalf of the Ministry to prepare all press releases and other communications related to the sector;
- Prepare, facilitate and coordinate media programmes for the Ministry and its Departments and Agencies;
- Draft and prepare for the publication of press releases, news, and articles for the Ministry;
- Prepare the Ministry’s Newsletter
- Prepare brief statement and report on national and topical issues for the information of the Ministry;
- Contribute to planning and arrangement of events, in particular regarding programmes, content, design and media production;
- Keep abreast and report on current events in the media, bearing special attention to reports that directly or indirectly impact the Ministry and advise on the appropriate course of action;
- Develop and promote communication standards that will lead to effective communication within the Ministry, through the encouragement of exchanging ideas and information, to support the achievement of work objectives, reflecting the change in the current mindset in civil servants;
- Develop communication procedures so that clear line of communication is established between the MDAs and SOEs so that the Minister’s office is not delayed with addressing concerns that could have easily been handled by the department or other agencies;
- Ensure high quality media coverage for the Ministry and sector public relations materials;
- Maintain good relationship with the public media and stakeholders;
- Consult with external specialists regarding public relations problems or public interviews;
- Provide related training or coaching where necessary;
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the Minister.
Benefits
Salary Band: SB 5
Job Requirements
Entry Criteria:
- Master’s in Public Relation or relevant field plus five years as a Public Relation Officer/Information and Communication Officer; or
- Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relation or relevant field plus five years as a Public Relation Officer/Information and Communication Officer.
