We are currently looking for an experienced skipper to join our team. The skipper will be responsible for the safe operation of a tiller-operated boat on scheduled guest charters. The ideal candidate will deliver excellent customer service, ensuring a memorable and enjoyable experience for guests while maintaining high standards of safety, navigation, and basic boat maintenance.

Job Description

  • Safely navigate the boat along designated routes, ensuring smooth and stable voyages.
  • Operate the vessel’s clear glass-bottom feature, highlighting key sights, marine life, and other points of interest to guests.
  • Ensure the boat operates within legal, environmental, and the local safety regulations at all times.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust routes as needed for the safety and comfort of the guest and crew
  • Greet and assist passengers upon boarding, providing a welcoming and informative atmosphere.
  • Provide commentary and educational information about marine life, local history, and the areas being visited.
  • Ensure guests’ comfort and safety throughout the trips, including ensuring they are aware of safety procedures and equipment (life jackets, emergency exits).
  • Address any guest inquiries or concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain all required safety equipment on the vessel and conduct safety drills as required.
  • Conduct regular safety checks before each charter to ensure the boat is in top working condition.
  • Monitor passengers to ensure all safety guidelines are followed, including adhering to any regulations regarding alcohol consumption or behaviour onboard.
  • Follow emergency procedures, including evacuations and first aid, if necessary.
  • Perform routine checks and light maintenance of the boat, ensuring the vessel remains clean, functional, and in top condition.
  • Clean the boat and ensure it remains in pristine condition for each charter, including cleaning the glass-bottom viewing area to ensure visibility for passengers.
  • Report any mechanical issues or needed repairs to the relevant team members in a timely manner.
  • Maintain communication with the office or shore team regarding schedule, weather updates, and guest information.
  • Coordinate with other crew members (if applicable), ensuring smooth operations during charters.
  • Report daily operations, any incidents, or feedback to the operations team.

Qualifications

  • Valid Skipper’s License: Must hold a valid captain’s license or certification based on the type of boat and local regulations (e.g., STCW, RYA, or equivalent).
  • Experience: Previous experience in operating boats, particularly glass-bottom boats or similar vessels with tiller outboard motor, is preferred.
  • Safety Training: Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and other relevant safety training.
  • Knowledge: Good understanding of marine navigation, boat maintenance, and local marine ecosystems.
  • Customer Service: Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests.
  • Physical Fitness: Ability to stand for long periods and perform physically demanding tasks as required.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English & French. Additional languages will be an advantage.
