Job Description

The Tailor & Laundry Attendant is primarily responsible for tailoring, garment alterations, repairs and custom garment-making at Fregate Island. The role includes maintaining uniforms for approximately 200 hosts, working with linen and providing professional tailoring and alteration services to resort guests.

The position requires strong technical tailoring skills, attention to detail and the ability to communicate confidently with guests. When tailoring duties are completed, the role also supports daily Laundry and Housekeeping operations.

Main Tasks

• Carry out professional tailoring, alterations, repairs and adjustments for guest garments, host uniforms and linen.
• Take accurate measurements, discuss garment requirements with guests and provide advice on alterations and fitting.
• Create custom-made garments, including pattern drafting, cutting, fitting and garment construction.
• Perform hand and machine stitching, including delicate alterations, hemming, seam repairs, zipper replacements and finishing.
• Operate industrial sewing machines and professional tailoring equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain and alter uniforms for approximately 200 hosts, ensuring proper fit, quality and presentation.
• Work with different fabric types, applying appropriate sewing, pressing, shaping and finishing techniques.
• Carry out linen repairs, minor upholstery work and fabric reuse or upcycling where required.
• Ensure all tailoring requests are completed accurately and within agreed timeframes.
• Support Laundry operations, including washing, drying, ironing, pressing and folding guest laundry, uniforms and linen.
• Assist with other Housekeeping duties when required.
• Maintain cleanliness, organisation and proper care of tailoring equipment and work areas.

Requirements

• Minimum 3–5 years of professional tailoring experience, preferably within hotels, luxury resorts or professional tailoring establishments.
• Strong skills in hand-stitching, industrial sewing machines, garment alterations and repairs.
• Proven experience in pattern cutting, drafting, garment construction and custom-made clothing.
• Ability to take accurate measurements, conduct fittings and make adjustments to different garment styles.
• Excellent knowledge of fabrics, garment construction, pressing, shaping and finishing techniques.
• Experience handling large volumes of uniforms and linen, including alterations, repairs and maintenance.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality tailoring and finishing.
• Previous laundry experience and knowledge of industrial laundry equipment are an advantage.
• Good spoken English and confidence communicating directly with guests, including understanding their requests, discussing alterations and explaining garment adjustments.
• Professional appearance, good grooming standards and a friendly, service-oriented approach.
• Ability to work independently, manage tailoring requests and meet deadlines.
• Willingness to support Laundry and other Housekeeping operations when required.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to remote island living and working conditions.
