Job Description
The employee will become a full member of the Alphonse dive and activities centre team. The main role of the employee will be to prepare and skipper the activity centre’s boats on a range of activities including but not exclusive to: SCUBA diving, Snorkelling, Blue Safari, Island visits and Flats lunch. The employee will be responsible for re-fueling and ensuring that boats are maintained to the highest possible standards of cleanliness and preparation. As skipper they are absolutely in charge of the vessel whilst on activities and assume the responsibility for the safety and well-being of the guests and crew. Daily work schedules will follow the instructions of the activitiy centre’s managers and dive instructors. In addition the employee will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the activity centre including general maintenance of the area ensuring that highest standards of cleanliness are maintained.
The position is ideal for an individual with a keen interest in outdoor activities and the ocean. The Alphonse Island experience is one of continuous exposure to the outdoors and building a continued understanding on how wildlife and the elements interact in the atoll environment.
Roles and Duties
The employee will be involved in all aspects of working at the activities centre including:
- Skippering a wide range of activities including diving, snorkeling and island visits.
- Participation on island visits and picnic/ BBQ set-ups
- Cleaning, drying, organizing and storing dive equipment
- Filling tanks (compressor training provided)
- Cleaning and upkeep of boats
- Setting up boats for activities with equipment needed as well as fuel, drinks, snacks and towels
- Reporting any boat issues to boat mechanic
- General cleaning and tidying of public areas
- Skippers are at all times required to be of a pleasant and helpful disposition and in doing so ensure an atmosphere of warm hospitality on board and a happy work place.
- Must be well presented at all times with uniform provided worn correctly

Job Requirements
Pre-Requisites
The employee should possess the following:
- Local Skippers licence and experience
- Current First Aid (can receive certification on Alphonse)
- Experience in providing excellent customer service.
- An efficient, courteous and pleasant attitude.
- Always ready to greet and assist guests in a polite courteous manner
- A keen interest in wildlife, both marine and terrestrial.
- Strong communication/team skills, ability to get on well with people from different cultures
- Good work ethic ‐ reliable, committed, highly motivated, professional, and positive attitude
- Independent, able to take initiative and co‐exist in small community with restricted facilities
- A high level of general fitness and strength in order to carry out strenuous activities comfortably
Other desirable qualities and qualifications include:
- Education in marine science or other conservation
- Previous exposure to the dive industry
- Prior experience living in a remote destination
- Additional languages
