Job Description

The Application & System Support Officer delivers responsive, high-quality technical support to clients and colleagues across the organization. This is a client-facing role that combines hands-on troubleshooting with clear communication, translating technical solutions for both technical and non-technical audiences. Success in this role requires strong organizational skills, sound judgment under deadline pressure, and a working understanding of the utilities industry and its business processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the team responsible for a defined portfolio of business systems applications
  • Contribute to applications programming activities, including testing, design, and analysis
  • Help develop and refine procedures and best practices for application users
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems
  • Guide staff and clients—in person or by phone—through steps to set up systems or resolve issues
  • Produce support materials, including procedural documentation and relevant reports
  • Follow diagrams and written instructions to repair faults or configure systems
  • Support the rollout of new applications
  • Set up new user accounts and profiles, and resolve password-related issues
  • Respond to call-outs within agreed time limits
  • See tasks through to completion, escalating to third parties when appropriate
  • Prioritize and manage multiple open cases simultaneously
  • Build strong working relationships with customers and other professionals (e.g., ISVs)
  • Test and evaluate new technology
  • Provide Level 1 escalation support via the helpdesk
  • Proactively and reactively resolve errors as quickly as possible
  • Maintain up-to-date support manuals and procedures; create user guides and tutorials

Job Requirements

Education

  • A degree is not required, though candidates with relevant qualifications are preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as Microsoft Certified Software Engineer (MCSE), ITIL or equivalent will be an added advantage.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience supporting business applications and IT systems.
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, Windows and Linux operating systems, Microsoft Office, Active Directory, Microsoft SQL Server, and VMware.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics AX and Ferranti MECOMS, will be an advantage.
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare technical documentation and user guides.
  • Basic understanding of the utilities industry is an advantage

Other Requirements

  • Possess a valid Seychelles driving licence.
  • Willingness to travel to work sites as required.
  • Willingness to work outside normal working hours, including weekends and public holidays when necessary.
  • Ability to work for extended periods using a computer.
  • Maintain professional conduct and appearance at all times.
