Responsible For: Principal Biomedical Engineers, Senior Biomedical Engineers, Senior Technicians, Technicians.

Job Description

Job Purpose:            

To advice the CEO on technical issues relating to the performance of Biomedical Engineering. To advise the CEO on evidence-based means of and ways of strengthening the health sector technical capacity for better health service delivery. To liaise with other technical chiefs in improving medical products and technologies in the country.

Key Outputs:

  1. National Policies guidelines and standards relating to biomedical engineering Initiated
  2. Operational Plans, budgets and strategies for improving medical products and technologies produced and implemented.
  3. Technical guidance and engineering support to Health Centers and Hospitals provided.
  4. Accountability for financial and other resources produced in time.
  5. National Health Service Delivery Standards including professional and service Codes of Conduct and Ethics related to biomedical engineering enforced at all levels in liaison with other stakeholders.
  6. Human Resource Management functions carried out.
  7. Health information, communication and technology management systems continuously updated

Key Functions:

  1. Initiating development of National Policies, Standards and Guidelines relating to biomedical engineering
  2. Producing and implementing Operational Plans, budgets and strategies for improving medical products and technologies in the nation.
  3. Providing technical guidance and engineering support to health centers and hospitals.
  4. Accountability for financial and other resources for biomedical engineering produced in time.
  5. Enforcing National Health Service Delivery Standards including professional and service Codes of Conduct and Ethics related to biomedical engineering at all levels in liaison with other stakeholders.
  6. Carry out Human Resource Management functions for biomedical engineering.
  7. Health information, communication and technology management systems continuously updated
  8. Providing leadership in the planning and delivering of biomedical services according to stipulated processes and procedures in place
  9. Organizing, monitoring and evaluating Continuous Professional Development programs for the unit
  10. Undertaking biomedical engineering activities geared towards enhancement of emergency preparedness and response
  11. Liaising and collaborating with local and international manufacturers and suppliers of medical technologies to maintain very good quality of medical equipment
  12. Developing and maintaining a master plan and procurement plan for biomedical services.
  13. Analyzing and forecasting for possible breakdown and repair for all biomedical equipment and instruments
  14. Facilitating training of staff for good quality service provision and maintenance of all new equipment and instruments
  15. Participating in planned, adhoc, emergency, and/or scheduled committee meetings of the organization

Job Requirements

Person Specifications

a) Qualifications

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from a recognized Institution.
  • Must have a post graduate qualification in project management, Business management or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.

b) Experience

  • A minimum of five (5) years working as a Principal Biomedical Engineer
