Island Conservation Society (ICS), a not-for-profit conservation NGO, has the following positions for qualified, experienced, reliable, self-motivated and dynamic persons to engage in a challenging conservation career.

Job Description

Duties & Responsibilities 

Responsible for the conservation and protection of all plant and animal species under the Conservation Management of ICS, design and implementation of the conservation and scientific programmes of (i) the Aride Island Special Reserve
and (ii) of the environmental conservation foundations managed by ICS on the inner and outer islands.

Location: The position is based at the Head Office, Pte Larue, Mahé.

Benefits

Job Requirement

Minimum – University postgraduate degree in ornithology, biology, conservation and environmental sciences and management or closely related field with considerable relevant field working experience.

Preferred – The above plus (i) at least 5 years proven experience in a management position and in the study of the ecology of fauna and fauna in island ecosystems, (ii) a collaborative team leader responsible for the performance and  output of subordinate staff, with demonstrable ability to build effective working relationships, (iii) Proven ability in progressing multiple tasks alongside each other and the flexibility to respond effectively to changing demands and priorities, and (iv) Ability to organise work loads without supervision and initiate action and resolve problems where appropriate.

Desirable – Certification and experience as an open water scuba diver. Experience as a small motor boat skipper.

Other considerations: The ideal candidate will be able to physically and mentally cope with the rigours of working in a remote location. Applicants should also have good awareness of safety issues and be comfortable living and working in small team with other people from a range of cultures. The successful applicant will be resilient, self-motivated, and be able to get along with other team members.
