Irrigation Supervisor

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Understand irrigation systems such as drip, sprinklers, valves, pumps, filters, pipes, controllers, pressure regulation, and fertigation. He should be able to identify leaks, blockages, pressure problems, and equipment failures. Understand electrical aspects of irrigation.
• Water management: Know how much water different crops/landscapes need, when to irrigate, and how to avoid over- or under-watering. Soil type, weather, evapotranspiration, and drainage should influence decisions.
• Planning and scheduling: Prepare daily irrigation programs, divide work among operators, coordinate maintenance, and make sure irrigation does not interfere with other farm activities.
• Leadership: Give clear instructions, check the quality of work, train operators, maintain discipline, and solve problems without waiting for management on every small issue.
• Monitoring and records: Record irrigation hours, water quantities/flow, pressure readings, pump operation, fertilizer application, breakdowns, repairs, and water consumption. A good supervisor should notice abnormal readings early.
• Maintenance: Have preventive-maintenance routines for pumps, filters, valves, emitters, sprinklers, controllers, and pipelines instead of only repairing equipment after it fails.
• Safety: Ensure safe operation of pumps, electrical equipment, chemicals/fertilizers, machinery, and field work. PPE and proper procedures should be enforced.
• Communication: Report clearly to the farm/irrigation manager: what was completed, problems found, water usage, equipment condition, manpower issues, and what needs attention next.
• Field presence: A supervisor should not only stay in the office. He needs to inspect the field regularly and verify that irrigation is actually reaching the plants uniformly.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

• Certificate or Diploma in related field
• 5 years irrigation experience
• Good communication skills
• Good Supervisory skills
• Class 2 driving license
