Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Marina Attendant is responsible for the safe, efficient, and professional day-to-day operation of the Estate’s marina facilities. The role supports residents, guests, yacht owners, and visitors by providing berth assistance, maintaining marina infrastructure, ensuring cleanliness and safety standards, and delivering exceptional customer service.

The Marina Attendant plays a key role in preserving the Estate’s reputation by ensuring that marina operations are conducted safely, vessels are accommodated efficiently, and all marina facilities are maintained to the highest operational and presentation standards. The role requires strong situational awareness, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to customer service and safety.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Marina Operations

  • Assist with the safe arrival, berthing, mooring, and departure of vessels.
  • Guide vessels into assigned berths using approved marina operating procedures.
  • Monitor marina occupancy and report berth availability to the Marina Supervisor.
  • Ensure marina rules and operating procedures are followed by all users.
  • Conduct regular inspections of pontoons, jetties, docks, gangways, mooring equipment, and marina infrastructure.
  • Assist with vessel movements as directed by the Marina Supervisor.

Customer Service

  • Welcome residents, guests, yacht owners, captains, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Provide information regarding marina facilities, operating procedures, and Estate services.
  • Assist with luggage, deliveries, supplies, and marina-related enquiries where appropriate.
  • Coordinate with Security, Concierge, Housekeeping, and Maintenance departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Build positive relationships with residents and visitors while maintaining professional standards.

Marina Maintenance

  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of all marina facilities, including docks, walkways, pontoons, jetties, service areas, and surrounding public spaces.
  • Remove debris and ensure marina areas remain clean, safe, and free from hazards.
  • Inspect marina equipment for defects or damage.
  • Report maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Assist with minor maintenance tasks where authorised.

Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance

  • Always promote safe marina operations.
  • Monitor compliance with marina safety procedures and Estate regulations.
  • Report unsafe behaviour, hazardous conditions, fuel spills, pollution, or environmental incidents immediately.
  • Assist during emergency situations including fire, medical emergencies, severe weather events, and marine incidents.
  • Ensure emergency equipment remains accessible and serviceable.
  • Support the Estate’s environmental protection and marine conservation initiatives.

Security Support

  • Monitor marina access points and report suspicious activity.
  • Assist Security personnel in maintaining authorised access to marina facilities.
  • Verify visitor access where required.
  • Report unauthorised vessels or persons immediately.
  • Protect Estate assets, marina infrastructure, and customer property.

Equipment & Asset Management

  • Operate marina equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Inspect ropes, bollards, life rings, ladders, lighting, and utility connections.
  • Ensure marina equipment is stored securely after use.
  • Report damaged or missing equipment immediately.
  • Maintain accountabilities for all assigned Estate equipment.

Administration

  • Maintain accurate records of vessel arrivals and departures.
  • Complete daily marina inspection checklists.
  • Record incidents, maintenance defects, and customer service requests.
  • Participate in shift briefings and operational meetings.
  • Support emergency documentation and reporting requirements.

Job Requirements

Qualification

Education

  • Secondary School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Certificate in Marina Operations, Boating, Hospitality, or Customer Service is advantageous.
  • First Aid and CPR certification is desirable.

Experience

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in marina operations, boating, hospitality, marine services, waterfront facilities, or customer service.
  • Experience working within residential estates, marinas, resorts, or yacht clubs is advantageous.
  • Experience handling vessels or assisting with mooring operations is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of marina operations and berth management.
  • Basic understanding of boating terminology and vessel handling.
  • Knowledge of marine safety procedures and emergency response.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work safely around water and marine equipment.
  • Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify maintenance issues and safety hazards.
  • Basic computer literacy for operational reporting.

  • Predominantly outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

  • Exposure to marine environments, saltwater, sun, rain, and changing weather conditions.
  • Rotating shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Requirement to respond to operational or emergency situations as required.
