Job Description

Job Purpose

A Principal Policy analyst oversees the examination of policies to evaluate their efficiency. He or She scrutinizes policies to determine whether they match objectives, review and amend policy drafts, and suggest improvements to existing policies.

Functional

  • Manage and coordinate routine activities of the Policy Section
  • Conceptualise and formulate new policies in regard to family, social development, gender and population issues
  • Review of existing policies bearing in mind mandate of the Department
  • Coordinate the development, review and implementation of Department Strategic Plan
  • Carry out strategic policy planning and development in relation to family, social development, gender, population, elderly and disabled persons’ issues
  • Monitor and evaluate policy implementation and their effectiveness
  • Assist with ensuring the efficient deployment and management of resources of the Section
  • Assist with advocating and sensitisation of Department policies
  • Participate in relevant meetings as and when necessary
  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the Director General

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills & Characteristics

  • A Principal Policy Analyst should have at least six (6) years relevant working experience, three (3) of which should have been served at the level of Senior Policy Analyst in Government or equivalent level of experience from a reputable organization.

Essential Qualifications/Experience

  • A Principal Policy Analyst should be in possession of a Bachelor’s degree in public policy or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences with the following subjects: Sociology, Social Administration, Economics, Political Science and Public Administration or a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics.
