Position: Security Officer

Location: National Assembly Building, Ile du Port

Job Description

Join the National Assembly of Seychelles as our SECURITY OFFICER.

About the role

To ensure the safety, security and protection of Members of the National Assembly, Parliamentary staff, visitors, dignitaries and the Precinct. The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a secure environment within the Parliamentary Precinct through proactive security measures, access control, emergency response, and enforcement of established security protocols.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Security Operations

  • Maintain a visible security presence throughout parliamentary buildings and surrounding precincts.
  • Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity and identify security risks.
  • Monitor entrances, exits, corridors, offices, committee rooms, the Chamber and other designated areas.
  • Respond promptly to security incidents, emergencies, alarms and requests for assistance.
  • Protect Members of the National Assembly, parliamentary staff, visitors and official guests during Sittings, Committee meetings and special events.

Access Control

  • Verify identities and authorize entry of Members, staff, contractors, visitors and service providers.
  • Operate access control systems, security screening equipment, and visitor management systems.
  • Conduct screening of persons, bags, parcels and vehicles using approved security equipment.
  • Prevent unauthorized access to restricted or sensitive areas.

Surveillance and Monitoring

  • Monitor CCTV systems and other electronic security systems.
  • Report suspicious behaviour, security breaches, or safety hazards immediately.
  • Record observations accurately in security logs and incident reports.

Emergency Response

  • Respond effectively to fire alarms, medical emergencies, security threats, public disturbances, evacuations, and other emergencies.
  • Assist emergency services during incidents.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness exercises and security drills.
  • Administer basic first aid where qualified and required.

Incident Reporting

  • Prepare clear, factual, and timely reports.
  • Collect and preserve evidence in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain accurate occurrence books, patrol logs, and daily activity reports.

Customer Service

  • Provide courteous assistance and directions for Members, staff, visitors, and dignitaries.
  • Maintain professionalism while enforcing parliamentary security policies.
  • Support ceremonial and official parliamentary functions.

Asset Protection

  • Safeguard parliamentary buildings, equipment, vehicles, documents, and other assets.
  • Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns that may affect security.
  • Maintain cleanliness of security posts.

Compliance

  • Enforce parliamentary security policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information. Observe human rights, ethical standards, and professional codes of conduct.

Benefits

Salary Grade: SB3 + appropriate Scheme of Service Allowance

Job Requirements

Education

  • Secondary school certificate or equivalent.
  • Certificate or higher in security management, law enforcement, or related field.
  • First Aid certification is desirable.
  • Training in emergency response, conflict management or defensive tactics is an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum 3-5 years in policing, military, or institutional security.
  • Experience in government, diplomatic or high-security facilities is an added advantage.

  • May be required to work overtime during parliamentary sessions, state ceremonies, or emergencies.
