Job Title: Speech Pathologist
Section: Hospital Services
Reports to: Senior speech pathologist
Responsible for: Speech Pathology Technician
Job Description
Job purpose:
To assess, diagnoses and manage children and adult with speech, language, communication, voices, fluency and swallowing difficulty congenital or acquired.
Key Outputs
- Communication disorders, cognitive communication disorders, voice disorders and swallowing disorders evaluated and diagnosed.
- Clients with autism spectrum disorder diagnosed and treated appropriately.
- Speakers speech sound articulation to meet the expected normal pronunciation well adjusted
- Mechanisms for helping clients who stutter to speak more fluently developed and implemented
- Therapeutic plans and protocols reviewed, implemented, documented and reported
- Communication disorders, cognitive communication disorders, voice disorders and swallowing disorders evaluated, diagnosed and treated.
- Speakers speech sound articulation to meet the expected normal pronunciation well adjusted
- Treatment, intervention, monitoring of client progress, counselling, specialized advised and rehabilitation done.
- Patients for referral well assessed and the process well-coordinated
- Program development, advocacy, education and prevention done
Key Functions
- Assessing and diagnosing children and adult with speech, language, communication, voices, fluency and swallowing difficulty congenital or acquired
- Adjusting speakers speech sound articulation to meet the expected normal pronunciation
- Reviewing, screening and interviewing of patients for referral to various departments
- Developing and implementing appropriate treatment plan
- Monitoring client/patient progress and modifying treatment as required
- Participating in bilingual translation during screening and assessment
- Carrying out HR functions including supervising, monitoring and evaluating of junior staff
- Participating in client /patient care, integrating treatment/intervention plans with family caregiver and health or school related personnel
- Collecting, processing and analyzing of data and sharing of reports appropriately
- Providing aural rehabilitation for individuals who are deaf or clients that require the service.
- Providing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems for individuals with severe expressive and/or language comprehension disorders, such as autism spectrum disorder or progressive neurological disorders

Qualification
- Must have a Degree in speech pathology, Human Communication science or its equivalent from a recognized Institution.
- Must be registered with the Allied Health Professionals Council.
