Job Description
Purpose
The Tax Officer is responsible for the end-to-end management of all tax obligations for SBL. This role ensures full compliance with applicable tax legislation, accurate computation and timely payment of all taxes, and serves as the primary liaison between the company and the SRC. The Tax Officer plays a critical role in safeguarding the company from tax risk through robust controls over excisable goods movements, ERP data integrity, and adherence to regulatory reporting deadlines.
Top Accountabilities
- Perform full computation and verification of excise tax on all excisable good produced, transferred for consumption and sales in accordance with applicable legislation.
- Process all stock transfers between duty-free and duty-paid areas in accordance with excise legislation and internal procedures ensuring that the correct tax liability is computed and recorded
- Preparation of the company’s Excise tax Bill of Entry in Asycuda
- Ensure all movements of excisable goods are captured accurately in the ERP system in real time or as prescribed by internal controls.
- Perform regular reconciliations with the ERP system and the physical stock to confirm tax liability.
- Initiate all excise tax payment
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all communications with the SRC and any other relevant tax authority on excise and related tax matters.
- Ensure the correct process is followed and auditable documentation retained for taxable activities such as disposal of non-conforming/ damaged products and introduction of new innovation products.
- Involvement in cycle count and monthly stock-take.
- Lead risk assessments in compliance with mandatory SRC requirements across all current and future bonded warehouse facilities.
Job Requirements
- Diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in Tax or similar role
Key Skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in using the ASYCUDA tax system for customs declarations, tariff classification, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax and trade regulations.
- Strong ability to operate ERP systems (e.g., Business Central, or similar) for managing financial transactions, tax reporting, data extraction, and reconciliation processes to support accurate and timely tax submissions
- Solid understanding of bonded warehouse operations, including inventory control, duty free/paid mechanisms, regulatory compliance, and proper documentation of goods under customs controls
- High level of accuracy in calculations, documentation, and compliance-related activities.
