Post Title: JCB/Excavator Operator

Job Description
Summary of Duties
- Drive and operate all categories of vehicles, during normal working hours or out-of-working hours, in accordance with their issued equipment/vehicle permit, keeping the log of mileages
- Attend servicing and daily inspection on equipment/ vehicles for fuel, water and lubricating oil
- Proper upkeep and road worthiness of equipment in your responsibilities, carrying out routine checks on equipment and report defects and abnormalities
- Report and submit accidents report when equipment/vehicle are damaged or immobilized within one working day of the occurrence
- Attend to emergency call-out in case of breakdowns
- Assist the team in carrying out their jobs if required whilst communicating effectively with superiors and co-workers
- Responsible for the safe operation of the JCB/Excavator
- Excavate trench to proper depth/grade
- Conduct all work in a safe and responsible manner
- Follow directions of ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement and grading
- Cut grade with minimal time spent on excavation to ensure production is on schedule
- Be aware of changes in soil condition and materials that impact operations
- Bring to supervisor’s attention any irregularities in soil condition or materials being used
- Be aware of proper rigging of pipe, manhole barrels, etc. and ensure safe work procedures are followed during lowering of materials into the excavation
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- S5 level of education or equivalent with ability to read and write in English and Creole
- Specific experience in the transport of heavy plant and operation of crane truck/excavator
- Essential: Class 4— 7 and special driving license
- Two years’ driving experience with at least one year on trucks/medium plant
