SHORT TERM CONTRACT

The Ministry of Agriculture, Climate Change and Environment (MACCE) is implementing a GEF funded project entitled “Indian Ocean ISLANDS – Seychelles- Implementing Sustainable Low and non-Chemical Development in SIDS” (ISLANDS Project).   The project is currently seeking a consultant to carry out the following assignment:

NATIONAL SAFEGUARDS EXPERT FOR THE ISLANDS PROJECT

Work is expected to commence in June 2024 and be implemented by July 2027 

Request for Proposal (RFP) is available in electronic or paper form from the address below between 9.00am to 3.00pm.  A full description of duties is provided in the Terms of Reference. These must be consulted before making an application.

General Qualifications/Experience and Skills required (please refer to the TOR for the full list)

• A university degree in the fields of environmental science, environmental law, environmental economics, or environmental and social assessment with over 5 years of professional experience in one of these fields; an advanced degree is an advantage.
• Experience in applying strategic environmental assessment and safeguards frameworks at a national legislative and policy level.
• Prior experience working with the UNDP and/or demonstrated knowledge of UNDP safeguards policies/mechanism, or experience with other donor-funded projects is an added advantage
• Strong knowledge of waste management in Seychelles with focus on chemicals and hazardous waste
• Excellent oral and multi-media communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills, proven through successful interactions with all levels of stakeholder groups (e.g., government officials, business executives, and local people/communities).
• Strong knowledge of the political and socio-economic context related to gender (and youth) in the Seychelles.
