Job Description
The Office of the Mayor of Victoria is seeking an experienced, dynamic and hardworking professional to fill the position of Director of Operations.
Reporting directly to the Mayor, the Director – Operations will provide strategic leadership and oversight of the Office’s operational, administrative, programme and support functions, ensuring the effective implementation of strategic priorities linked to the Mayor’s Strategic Plan, efficient resource management and high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of the Mayor.
- Coordinate the implementation of strategic plans, programmes and operational priorities.
- Provide oversight of projects, community initiatives and organisational programmes.
- Monitor organisational performance and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage operational budgets, procurement, assets and administrative resources.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with government agencies, local authorities, community organisations, NGOs and the private sector.
- Provide strategic operational advice to the Mayor and support policy development.
- Ensure timely preparation of operational reports, briefing notes and presentations.
- Supervise and support the Project Coordinator and Assistant Project Coordinator.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess:
- A Degree in Public Administration, Management, Business Administration, Project Management, Planning (preferably town planning), Social Sciences or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 5–7 years’ relevant experience in operations management, public administration, programme management or organisational leadership.
- Strong leadership, strategic planning and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Sound knowledge of financial, administrative and project management practices.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a dynamic environment.
Working Conditions
The position is primarily office-based and involves regular engagement with government agencies, community representatives and key stakeholders. The successful candidate may also be required to work outside normal office hours during official functions, emergencies or major events.
