The Office of the Ombudsman invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the above position.
Job Description
The Principal Investigation Officer will assist the Ombudsman in the strategic and operational management of the Investigations Unit and support the effective handling of complaints, preliminary enquiries, alternative dispute resolution processes and investigations undertaken by the Office of the Ombudsman.
The postholder will provide senior professional advice, coordination, supervision and quality assurance in relation to complex and systemic matters, while ensuring that all investigative work is properly planned, documented, reviewed and completed in accordance with applicable laws, procedures and institutional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Ombudsman in managing and overseeing complaints, preliminary enquiries and investigations.
- Provide professional advice and recommendations on complex and systemic matters.
- Assist in preparing matters for alternative dispute resolution and informal resolution processes.
- Review investigation plans, evidence assessments, draft findings, reports and proposed recommendations.
- Supervise, guide and mentor Senior Investigation Officers and Investigation Officers.
- Promote high standards of complaint handling, investigative practice, confidentiality and records management.
Job Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- Law Degree and Master’s Degree in Law or a related legal field, with at least ten years’ relevant professional experience, including substantial experience in constitutional law, administrative law, public law, investigations, oversight and accountability functions; or
- Admitted Attorney-at-Law with at least eight years’ post-qualification experience in constitutional law, administrative law, public law, litigation, investigations, oversight and accountability functions.
